An extremely tight collaboration between Winners and their clients, Conrad and others, is successful thanks to Perigee DAM (Digital Asset Management) and Perigee D-PIM (Dynamic Product Information Management). Didier Herbster and Franck Broodthuis, of Winners, tell us their secrets.
Winners started out as a photo lab and transformed itself into a veritable full-service graphics agency. Given its roots, Winners developed a particular style by combining their creativity with their technical know-how. This is a great mix as shown by Didier Herbster, Sales Manager, and Franck Broodthuis, Technical Director, who, together, discuss Perigee as used for producing Conrad’s and other projects.
How did the collaboration with Perigee begin?
DH: Four years ago, with Conrad. In 2002, while working on one of Conrad’s catalogues, we ran across the “catalogue” module of Perigee’s. (Today, it is called MCP or Multi-channel Publishing.) This was a big change in the way we worked with Conrad because all of our services were impacted: sales, marketing, buying, etc.
What was it like producing the first catalogue? A perfect system?
FB: Not really! We had a few problems with the initial implementation. The changes in the way of working were difficult to master. We were not vigilant enough in the beginning so we had to go back and make minor modifications that cost us a lot of time. For example, we had to delete hard returns that we added out of habit, but that Perigee automatically adds for the user. Building product cards for the product database also took awhile. It is absolutely necessary to take enough time in the beginning to set things up properly and to continue to survey projects closely.
What has this new system brought to Conrad?
DH: We can respond with a number: a 30% increase in sales!
Naturally, this was not only due to the change in the way of working, but was also due to the fact that Conrad launched a website that opened the door to a new target audience.
But, Perigee’s MCP facilitated this process in that information prepared for print was then exported for use on the web. And product information is always up-to-date for both channels. The immediate transfer of product sheets to the web, coupled with access to this new target audience, very quickly increased sales. This would not have been possible without the simultaneous multichannel production capabilities of Perigee.
Were other clients affected as well?
FB: That depends. It is clear that Perigee software is very profitable and useful for clients that have many complex yet repetitive tasks.
DH: Yes, and we think that having a product database makes a real difference. More and more, companies see the value that their images have, particularly when these images can be accessed and used at will. Having a database that links product data with images makes a quantifiable difference as this cuts down on search time.
Today, with Perigee’s on the fly backup system, we no longer lose files and we find them very quickly when we need them! This is very important when creating a seasonal or extract catalogue and again, saves a lot time.
And what are the benefits for you, as an agency?
FB: We have had a definite increase in productivity because our client’s marketing teams and our internal production groups now work together thanks to the collaborative workflow. Managing data and files has been simplified and we save a lot of time because we have access to archived and past files.
DH: Our clients remain loyal because we work very closely with them throughout the production process.
Is the ability to publish to multiple channels a plus?
FB: It is a requirement today. And something that many of our clients and prospects ask of us.
DH: And a reality for Conrad. Something that we will continue to improve.
Is anything lacking with your current system?
FB: To go further with the web! But we hear that this is coming!
Perigee is still a great product. It is the only software that we know of that takes, from version to version, less space on our servers. Incredible!
